She's Quirky and She's Kooky
Although many people feel awkward around people with disabilities and worry about saying the wrong thing, we have a feeling that this girl is an open book. When she posted this incredible DIY costume on Instagram, she wrote 'I am more a my body is half there instead of half gone type of girl,' - and we love that! The fact that she thought of this costume in the first place proves that she has the best sense of humor.
You can tell she's pretty proud of her Halloween costume, too. She's nailed the concept, and we'd love to know how she managed to get those pants to stand up so straight.
Queen of the Iron Throne
Who says that people in wheelchairs can't dress up for Halloween, too? Not this lady! If you're a Game of Thrones fan, you'll definitely appreciate this creative and downright genius design. But even if you don't know who Olenna Tyrell is, you have to admire all of the hard work that's gone into this Halloween costume. Not only has she gone all-out with the clothes that she's wearing, but the Iron Throne is something else.
Eagle-eyed fans will also spot the not-so-subtle nod to her title as the Queen of Thorns, and that's before we mention the fact that her assistant dressed the part, too!
"I'll Be Back"
Let's give this woman a round of applause! While some amputees may struggle with the loss of a limb, it seems as though this woman is embracing what life has thrown her way - and she's even using her missing forearm as a chance to create the best Halloween looks we've ever seen. From the zombie prom queen to her Wednesday Addams costume, all of them are perfect. But can you get any better than an amputee Terminator Halloween costume?
You don't have to be a Terminator fan to appreciate just how impressive this is. The whole look is perfect and suits her so well. Just look at that wire detailing!
Cooking up a Spooky Storm
There's no age to Halloween, and that's just one of the many reasons why we love this spook-tacular Halloween. Anyone of any age can get dressed up for the occasion, and it doesn't matter how old you are because anyone can make their own DIY Halloween costume - and this lady didn't need to be told twice. But instead of hiding her walker, she came up with a clever way to incorporate her walker into her Halloween costume.
Isn't this genius? The cooker looks so real and what we love most about this Halloween costume is the fact that she looks so proud of her creation. And so she should be!
Yarrrrr, Have a Happy Halloween!
Dressing up for Halloween is a rite of passage that every kid has to go through, no matter whether you're in a wheelchair or not. We've got to give some props to the parents of this child, who made Halloween accessible for their kid on what could be a very uninclusive holiday. They worked hard bringing this Halloween costume to life, buying him a pirate's costume and turning his wheelchair into a pirate ship!
If you look to the top-right of this picture, you'll also spot the pièce de résistance - Polly the parrot! This whole costume is incredible and shows us the true (spooky) beauty of Halloween.
Real-Life Jaws
People with disabilities will no doubt struggle over the course of their lives, but we love it when people can look on the bright side of life and find joy in what's happened to them. And when this guy was born with an underdeveloped hand, he and his girlfriend decided to take the opportunity to create the most hilarious and genius DIY Halloween costume we've ever seen. With fake blood included, and everything!
This real-life Jaws scene is so funny, and we love the fact that they've worked together to create a couple's costume to top all couples' costumes. They even tore rips into his T-shirt - and that's dedication.
Great Scott! It's the DeLorean
Halloween hasn't always been so accessible, but it seems as though more and more people are opening up their eyes to the fact that people just like this guy also want to get involved in the creepy shenanigans of this holiday. And can we all just take a moment to appreciate how accurate and how well-made this DeLorean is?! From general size and shape to the little details that make it instantly recognizable, we're obsessed.
We also love the fact that this DeLorean also has working front and rear lights. That'll make things so much easier on a dark and gloomy Halloween evening. But will he drive on the sidewalk or the road?
You Shall Go to the (Halloween) Ball
Many children in wheelchairs don't have creative parents who can bring their big Halloween ideas to life, but that doesn't mean that they have to stay at home while their friends go trick or treating. These photos show volunteers gathered near the offices of RS&H to give disabled children the DIY Halloween costumes they had been working on. And it's safe to say that the kids look pretty happy with these impressive creations.
We're not sure which one we love more; the awesome speedboat, or Cinderella's carriage. But if we had to pick one, it would definitely be Cinderella's carriage!
Having a Spooky Soak
People with wheelchairs and walkers have to work extra hard if they want to turn their mobility aids into something spooky for Halloween. And we don't know about you, but we'd like to give this woman a round of applause! Or should we call her a rubber ducky? She's managed to turn her walking aid into a mobile bathtub, and she's filled the whole thing with bubbles and everything else you'd need for a good ol' soak.
From the loofah to the back scrubber and the water trickling out of the shower, this rubber ducky looks like she's having the time of her life. And she also looks pretty snuggly.
Go, Go, Little Astronaut!
We want disabled kids of all shapes, sizes, and capabilities to know that they have the power to become anything they want to be. They shouldn't let their disabilities get in the way of their dreams, and it seems as though the parents of this adorable little girl think the same. So, when she said that she wanted to be an astronaut for Halloween, they decided to put their DIY hat on.
They managed to turn her walking aid into one of the best rockets we've ever seen, and we have a feeling that she made her country (and NASA) incredibly proud when she walked this rocket down the street.
Caught in a Trap, Can't Get Out
Human beings come in all shapes and sizes, with all kinds of abilities and disabilities. And while this child can't walk or talk, his dad didn't want him to miss out on everyday events or special occasions throughout the year. So, he makes him a DIY Halloween costume every single year - and this year, he pulled it out of the bag. Using his son's wheelchair as a base, he turned the whole thing into a shark cage.
He not only added a shark into the mix, but he even got his son to wear a wetsuit and goggles for the occasion! And if he doesn't deserve the father of the year award, we're not sure who does.
Hey Barbie
Barbie fever has well and truly taken over the world, and we have a feeling that there will be so many Barbie costumes making the rounds this year. But if you want our opinion, nothing will top this one. When this little girl decided that she wanted to go as a Barbie doll for Halloween, her parents decided to pull out all of the stops. They didn't make her any old Barbie, though. She's limited edition Barbie!
You won't find another Barbie quite like her, and that's why we're obsessed with everything about this Halloween costume. Let's also give a round of applause for her impressive model pose!
"Life, Uh, Finds a Way"
Let's be honest; you can't get much better than family Halloween costumes. Seeing parents and their children dress up as part of one theme makes us so happy - and that's exactly why we love this DIY Halloween costume. Sure, this family had to think a little harder to find a way to incorporate their mom's wheelchair - but in the end, it's safe to say that they absolutely nailed this Jurassic Park costume.
Of course, we can't get enough of the blow-up dinosaur costumes. But the way they've turned her wheelchair into one of the famous Jurassic Park Jeeps has pushed us over the edge. it was a genius move.
The House Always Wins
It's not uncommon to see people dress up as magicians and poker players for Halloween. But have you ever seen anyone dressed up as a blackjack dealer, complete with a card table and spinning blackjack wheel? No, we thought not! That's why we can't stop staring at this DIY Halloween costume. And more than anything, we can't get over how realistic it is. It looks like it's come straight out of the Max Grand.
The fact that this child's parents put the effort into bringing this Halloween costume to life fills our hearts with joy. He looks like he's really getting into the role, so we'd like a twist, please!
Halloween Chainsaw Massacre
Many amputees may feel self-conscious of their missing limbs, but we love the fact that some people embrace their differences and turn them into genius works of Halloween art! And this woman is the perfect example of that. Instead of hiding her missing arm on the spookiest day of the year, she decided to use it to her advantage. In fact, she decided to turn herself into a creepy chainsaw woman.
While we sincerely hope that this is a homemade chainsaw rather than a real-life working chainsaw, the whole effect is epic. She looks like she's really getting into the role of her character, too.
E. T Phone Home
You probably don't need us to tell you that E.T: The Extraterrestrial is one of the best movies ever made. Because of that, so many people dress like Elliot and E.T. every single Halloween. And when this young boy decided that he wanted to honor the film for his spooky celebrations, his family decided to make that dream a reality. In fact, his wheelchair served as the perfect bicycle for their movie replication!
This is one of the cutest things we've ever seen, and the young boy is a dead ringer for young Elliot. He even has the iconic red hooded sweatshirt to bring the character to life.
Thor and His Hammer
Anyone familiar with the story of Thor will know that he's one of the few people who can hold his mighty hammer. Only those who are worthy to wield Mjölnir can pick it up, but it seems as though this man with an amputated leg decided to give it a go and see how he fared. In fact, he decided to dress up as Mjölnir itself! His single leg worked perfectly as the hammer's handle.
Of course, Thor's hammer wouldn't be complete without Thor by its side. So, he roped in his other half to dress up as the God of Thunder. And, overall, this DIY Halloween costume is both clever and hilarious.
A Pile of Crayons
Kids say the darnedest things, and if you've ever asked a child what they want to dress up as for Halloween, there's a high chance that you've come across some strange answers. But when this girl decided that she wanted to be a pile of crayons for the spooky holiday, her parents decided to oblige. They covered her walker with pool noodles and construction paper and strapped them to her walker with tape! They even added a hat for good measure.
This Halloween costume is so imaginative, and we love the fact that it's so colorful and realistic. after all, she really does look like a pile of crayons. She wins our Halloween contest.
A Delicious Human Leg
When your life changes forever, it can be easy to wallow in sadness. But there comes a time in many amputees' lives when they come to terms with the cards that they have been dealt, and they embrace the curveball thrown their way. And we have a feeling that this person has done just that! When the creepy holiday came around, they decided to poke fun at their missing leg by buying a bloody body part online.
If we saw them on the street, we'd definitely think that they'd chopped off their own leg and tried to eat it! So, we'd say that they absolutely nailed this DIY Halloween costume. It's spooky and genius!
The Most Delicious Sushi Roll
Sometimes, the best Halloween costumes are the most simple costumes, and this one proves that you don't have to spend hours and hours making a DIY costume. This guy still wins the Halloween contest in our opinion, and we love the humor behind this sushi roll outfit. Not only is his 3D T-shirt one of the coolest things we've ever seen, but we also can't get enough of the fact that he's included his wheelchair into the mix, too.
Everything about this Halloween costume looks both adorable and creative at the same time. And while we're sure this wasn't his intention, now we just can't stop thinking about eating sushi!
The Cold Doesn't Bother Her Anyway
If you're wondering whether this little girl will catch a cold during her trick-or-treat adventures, don't worry! The cold doesn't bother her, anyway. In fact, it doesn't look like anything bothers her. And while she could have stayed at home for fear of her walker standing out on Halloween, she decided to embrace her walking aid and dress herself and her walker for the occasion. Yes, say hello to Princess Elsa.
From the dress to the cut-out horses that adorn her walker, everything about this DIY Halloween costume is magical. And we just love the fact that she looks so happy wearing it.
Yo, Ho, Ho, It's a Pirate's Life for Him
No Halloween celebration would be complete without seeing a pirate roaming the streets. And it seems as though people of all shapes, sizes, and abilities want to become pirates during the spooky season. This guy was the same, and he decided that he wasn't going to let the fact that he had one leg stop him from dressing as a pirate. In fact, it helped bring the whole DIY Halloween costume to life!
After all, pirates are famous for having peg legs, right? We're not sure how he managed to balance on that tiny wooden leg, though, so kudos to this guy for dedicating himself to this costume.
Time for a Halloween Race
There are two different ways to celebrate Halloween; you can either go down the creepy route or you can go down the creative route. Sometimes these two worlds collide, but on this occasion, these girls decided that they wanted creativity. And when a local sewer heard that they were struggling to find Halloween costumes to suit their wheelchairs, she decided to craft them something bigger than they could have ever imagined.
The end result was two converted wheelchairs that made people stop and stare as they were rolling down the street. And we love the attention to detail with the mushroom hat!
Highway to the Danger Zone
Many kids in wheelchairs miss out on Halloween each year because they don't feel confident. But we're here to tell you that Halloween can be accessible - especially if you have creative people around you. And when Payton decided that he wanted to go trick-or-treating this year, those around him decided to rally around and create the coolest Top Gun-inspired Halloween costume we've ever seen. Just look at that Maverick go!
From the impressive fighter jet to Payton's outfit and helmet, everything about this DIY Halloween costume is so much more impressive than we'd ever thought possible. It doesn't even look like a costume. It looks real.
Go Oilers
If you're not an Oilers fan, you might want to look away. But even if you do support a different team, it's hard to deny that this isn't one of the cutest things you've ever seen. And while we know that Halloween is supposed to be scary, the perfect Halloween costume can also be measured by its creativity - and this costume is super creative. You might not even realize that there's a wheelchair under there.
Yes, this dad built his son an Oilers' Zamboni on top of his wheelchair for Halloween, and we have to say that the construction is incredible. It looks just like the real deal.
She Always Pays Her Debts
Yes, this is another one for the Game of Thrones fans! We'll give you three guesses as to which character this woman dressed up as - but if you didn't guess that it was Tyrion Lannister, then you might want to rethink calling yourself a Game of Thrones fan. The scar on her face is a dead giveaway, but the goblet of wine in her hand is also a major nod to the character.
We have to celebrate the dedication to this Halloween costume, as you can tell that she put a huge amount of thought into bringing this character to life. And we think you'll agree when we say that she's nailed it.
Ready, Steady, Race!
While it's important to give a round of applause to the kid rocking this Zombie Monster Truck costume, let's also take a moment to appreciate the fact that this little guy's mom built this for him! Not only that, but she put a huge amount of time and effort into bringing all of the little details to life, such as painting the little tire grooves and adding the zombie arms on the side of the truck.
All in all, this is one of the best DIY Halloween constructions we've ever seen. And we have a feeling that this guy probably felt like the coolest kid in his neighborhood.
If the Shoe Fits...
While a lot of the costumes on this list have been built for kids by their parents, let's all take a moment to appreciate this woman's Prince Charming, who decided to build her a Cinderella carriage wheelchair costume for their trip to Disney California. This costume is so realistic it looks as though they could have paid thousands of dollars to add that to her wheelchair. But he made it all from scratch!
With a Prince Charming like that by her side, we have a feeling that she's probably found her happily ever after. And it looks like the shoe fits, as well!
Oh, Snap!
We don't know what we love more; the fact that this woman decided to creep out all of her friends and family with her skeleton leg or the fact that she decided to team this whole Halloween look with a very appropriate T-shirt. We're going to have to say that we love them both equally, as this whole costume is so subtle yet so effective. She didn't feel the need to go OTT, but it's still super spooky.
As an amputee, she decided to play to her strengths and add a fake skeleton leg into the mix. And we think that's one of the best ideas we've ever seen.
Hi Baby Yoda
When kids are younger, it's often hard for them to understand their disabilities. While they know they're different in their own way, many of them don't understand why the world treats them so differently. But this young girl felt just like her brothers this Halloween, as she was gifted with the coolest Halloween costume we've ever seen. Yes, she's dressed up as Baby Yoda - and she looks absolutely incredible.
The costume works perfectly with her wheelchair, and we love the hat and the wheelchair covers that finish off the whole look. If we had that hat, we don't think we'd ever take it off.
Taking on the Terminator
Wearing prosthetics can be a big deal for some people, and many choose to hide them from the world in order to look as 'normal' as possible. But these prosthetics shouldn't be hidden - especially when they look as cool as this! This woman decided to show off her prosthetic this Halloween, turning herself into the female version of The Terminator. And we have a feeling that Arnold would be incredibly proud.
Let's be honest; we don't think we've ever seen anyone look so stylish on Halloween, and we love the fact that she mixed this character costume with her own glamorous style.
Wakanda Forever
Due to the popularity of Marvel comics and movies, we're not surprised to see so many people dress up as superheroes every Halloween. But what makes this costume even more special is the fact that this guy is a quadruple amputee - and he was given brand new arms just a few days before he donned this Halloween costume. And it made the whole thing look even more impressive than it did already.
The arms look as though they were made for a superhero, and they look so powerful! We bet he felt incredibly powerful while he was wearing this Halloween costume, too.
Time to Bet It All
Have you ever wondered what the little blackjack dealer from earlier on in the list would look like when he's older? Ok, these are two different people - but it seems as though they had the same idea when it came to incorporating their wheelchairs into their Halloween costumes. This guy's grown-up version is a little simpler than the one we saw earlier, but that doesn't make it any less impressive.
He decided to really dress up for the occasion, wearing his smartest black tux and wearing a matching shirt. We also love the fact that he's already laid out the table for people to play as the night progresses.
The Cutest Shark There Was
It must be hard to adjust to life as an amputee later in life, but this woman decided to embrace what had happened to her and turn her situation into a positive - especially when she got her baby involved. For their family Halloween costume, they decided to bring a shark attack into the real world, and they even brought some red paint into the mix too. It certainly looks very gory.
While we love everything about this costume, we can't help but feel a little sorry for the big guy in the blow-up shark costume. We bet he's dealing with a whole load of sweat in there.
We're Not in Kansas Anymore
You probably don't need us to tell you that The Wizard of Oz is one of the most iconic movies ever created. So many people choose to dress up as Dorothy every year for Halloween, and it seems as though that's exactly what this guy did. He donned Dorothy's famous dress and even took pictures in front of what looks like a barn in Oz! Yes, this is truly iconic.
The only thing that's missing from this epic Halloween costume is the ruby slippers - so we don't think he'll be going home anytime soon. Perhaps that's why he looks so sad.
Anyone for a Hot Dog?
We love it when families come together to create one big Halloween costume, and what we especially love about this family is that they didn't exclude their child in a wheelchair. They made her feel as though she was part of the team - and she was! The hot dog makers had everything they needed to bring delicious hot dogs to the table (or should we say trunk?), including those all-important hats.
Although we can't tell if these are real hot dogs or not, we'll take a regular dog with extra onions and mustard, please! In fact, we'll have some extra ketchup, too.
Watch Out for Bananas
So many amazing things come in threes, which is handy if you have three children. And if you're a fan of Super Mario Bros, it just makes sense to dress them up as Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach, right? This parent obviously thought so, and they weren't going to let their son's wheelchair stop them from bringing this idea to life, either. Instead, they let the wheelchair enhance the Halloween costume!
Mario got his very own go-kart, but we really hope that he kept an eye out for loose banana skins while he was out trick-or-treating. That could have been a disaster, otherwise.
Shark Got Ya Leg?
People with disabilities often have their lives turned upside down in an instant, and just one year before this photo was taken, this guy had to have his right leg amputated. Although this was a big adjustment for him, he decided that it wasn't going to stop him from living life to the fullest. So, when it was time to come up with a Halloween costume, he decided to embrace his new look.
With the help of a large plush shark, he created a simple but effective Halloween costume that looks absolutely hilarious. And it's fair to say that he looks pretty proud of his achievements, too.
The Ultimate Gordon Ramsay
We love the creativity that has gone into all of the DIY Halloween costumes on this list, but this is definitely one of our favorites - and not just because we love Gordon Ramsay. We love the fact that this young girl asked to become the famous TV chef for the spooky holiday, and we don't blame her. Gordon can be pretty scary, after all! However, this girl looks extremely adorable in her chef hat.
It seems like she's cooking up a storm in her wheelchair, too. The spaghetti looks delicious, although the meatballs look as though they need to be cooked a little longer!
Time to Fight Some Fires
It's not uncommon to see little boys and girls dress up as firefighters on Halloween. There's something so admirable about firefighters, and kids really seem to resonate with them and their jobs. But while we've seen so many firefighters costumed over the years, nothing quite compares to this little girl and her costume! Those around her managed to turn her walker into a fire truck for the spooky celebrations, and it looks absolutely incredible.
The whole outfit was topped off by a trip to the fire station, and judging by the look on her face she seemed to enjoy her time with her fellow firefighters.
